Thin Thoughts: Being Present Now
Today's Quote:
"Wallace Wattles shares a wonderful tip about eating in one of his books. He recommends that when
you eat, make sure you are entirely focused on the experience of chewing the food. Keep your mind present and
experience the sensation of eating food, and do not allow your mind to drift to other things. Be present in your
body and enjoy all the sensations of chewing the food in your mouth and swallowing it." Rhonda Byrne, The
Secret
Conscious eating is an important part of weight loss because it helps you to enjoy your food more completely, feel
satisfied, and eat less than you would otherwise.
When you eat while watching television, browsing the internet, driving or reading, you are not fully present with
the act of eating. Therefore it's all too easy to consume much more food that you normally would, AND since you
weren't "there" for most of the eating, you don't feel satisfied so you keep feeling like you need to eat even
more.
Do you feel some resistance to this idea of paying attention only to your food as you eat? Many people do, and the
reason might surprise you.
Many people use food like a drug - they eat mindlessly in an effort to "zone out" and escape uncomfortable
feelings.
Uncomfortable feelings can be anything from negative beliefs to plain old stress or boredom.
It can be challenging to overcome this habit because your mind may be in the habit of zoning out the moment you
begin eating.
However, if you keep gently pulling it back to the present moment again, time after time, you will eventually form
a new habit of conscious eating.
You will enjoy your meals much more, feel more satisfied afterwards, and eat less - natural weight loss at its
best!
Altering your thoughts and beliefs is still important, but this small commitment to conscious eating alone can go a
long way in helping your body to regain its natural state of health and well-being.
Today's affirmation:
I eat only as much as my body needs to feel satisfied.
